Investments in Stockholm tech companies hit new record highs

​Interest and investment in Stockholm continues to rise, with nearly three times as many investments in Stockholm tech companies in 2016 than the previous year. According to a breakdown by The Nordic Web, a total of 250 investments were made in 2016 compared to 90 investments during 2015.

Stockholm’s positive development continued in the third quarter of 2016, according to the Stockholm Economy Report. Wages increased and unemployment continued to fall in both Stockholm County and the City of Stockholm compared with the same quarter last year.

Stockholm-Uppsala region may become new home of EMA

As a result of the UK decision to leave the EU the European Medicines Agency (EMA) are planning to leave the UK. On Thursday, the Government of Sweden decided to actively work for EMA to be located in Sweden and the Stockholm-Uppsala region in particular. A special secretariat will be created that will organize Sweden’s candidacy. This decision is welcomed by Stockholm Business Region.

Winners of Stockholm Innovation Scholarship 2016 appointed

This year’s winners of the Stockholm Innovation Scholarship represent innovative solutions for highly topical challenges and societal problems. This involves everything from innovations that will revolutionize how we consume and produce food in the city to a new aid to facilitate communication with traumatized children. In total, six recipients will share SEK 630,000.

Ms Karin Wanngård, Mayor of Stockholm announced today Wayne Roberts, director of Katie Says Goodbye, as winner of Stockholm Impact Award. During the Stockholm International Film Festival Award Ceremony, Roberts will receive the prize designed by Ai Weiwei and will be given 1 million SEK in support to upcoming film projects.
